ART S LITERATURE
A POEM
— A poem they said
I should write
About what! Of course
They didn't recite
— So I sat myself down
With my mind at thought
To remember what the heck
I had been taught!
A poem on life — or on death
A poem on love — or (oops) on sex
Maybe in couplets
— or as a sonnet
Maybe descriptive NOTHINGNESS
— or rather DARN IT! ! !
An abyss of darkness looms above.
— Millions of lines and verses In mortal fear you cower back,
I must've thrown away As ombres of light dart through you,
Till I came up with the poem You look around,
You're reading today. No light do you see,
Only Fear and Darkness are your companions,
NIKI TSAKONAS An open space of nocturnal light smothers you,
No illuminated neon signs to guide you,
No flashing headlights to comfort you,
THE VASE No street lamps to pave your way,
Not even the flickering flame of a candle,
There is a tall Only the midnight light,
Silver man Even the comfort of drab grey steel and concrete
On the piano mountains,
He holds pussy willows today ARE HERE NO LONGER TO PROTECT YOU,
Eventually he will Only fear and darkness are here,
Be mine to put Watching, as you sit and tremble,
Daisies in They say the night has a thousand eyes,
But now I sit But in this space of darkness,
At the piano It must have a million,
And hope that You feel them burning into you,
When I own that man But you look around, nothingness,
I'll think back Time is no longer,
to now You wait in eternal darkness,
When the man saddened me Seeking, probing, for those rays of comforting light,
I'd rather keep But Fear and Darkness are ever constant as you wait
the pussy willows in your limbo,
Soft things are Nothing remains,
More like him. Nothingness.
